Pre COP Consultation Workshop held.

Pre COP Consultation workshop with the participation of around 50 representatives from government institutions, INGOs, NGOs, youth, children and civil society was held on 23 November at Shanker Hotel, Kathmandu.  Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) and Clean Energy Nepal (CEN), in association with Climate Change Network Nepal (CCNN), organized the consultation workshop.

Speaking at the program Dr. Udaya Raj Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Environment briefly shared Nepal’s strategy to lobby the Annex 1 countries to commit to reduce their GHGs emission by 45% by 2020 with the base year 1990 and adequate, predictable and unconditional funds for adaptation for the most vulnerable and least developed countries.

 He encourages the youths and children to raise their voice strongly in this international forum and provide necessary support for the government delegation to strengthen Nepal’s position. Mr. Sharma is also interested to regular meetings of the Nepali delegation with the attending Nepali civil society members for effective planning and increased dialog.

 Mr. Pankaj K. C from Clean Energy Nepal presented the overall objectives and activities of the campaign “Stop Melting Life, Save the Himalayas…!” This campaign contains different awareness raising, capacity building, advocacy and policy level activities that aim to reach different regions.

 Mr. Rishikesh Ram Bhandary and Sushila Pandit from NYCA presented on the youth position and youth action for COP 15 respectively. They requested all participants to join hands to make Nepal’s presence effective in COP 15.

 In the discussion session, most of the participants emphasized the importance of coordination between all Nepalis going COP 15. Mr. Sagar Chaulagain, who is representing Nepali children, spoke about his strategy and agenda for COP 15 and the UNICEF Children’s Conference.
