District orientations on climate change policy and programmes and role of district stakeholders organized

The district level orientations on climate change policy and programmes and role of district stakeholders were organized in eight districts namely Saptari, Udayapur, Gorkha, Nawalparasi, Kalikot, Dailekh, Kailali and Bajhang from five development regions.

More than 50 district level stakeholders attended in each orientation representing district government agencies, I/NGOs, Community Forest Users Groups (CFUGs), academic institutions, political party, media, women groups, youth groups and other civil society organizations. In most of the orientation, Chief District Officer (CDO), Local Development Officer (LDO), District Forest Officers (DFO) and head of the other district government agencies participated.

The half day orientation mainly contained the presentation and discussion on basics of climate change, overview of national policy and programmes and assessment of climate change initiatives in district. The assessment of climate change initiatives in districts is undergoing in 18 districts. Responses from the government representatives and district stakeholders were overwhelming as they appreciated this program as a new of this kind in most of the districts.

Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) on behalf of Climate Change Network Nepal (CCNN) with support from the European Union, OXFAM and in coordination with the district level partners organized the orientations.
