AIN consultative workshop on Climate Change

Association of International NGOs of Nepal (AIN) organized a consultative workshop on 22nd May, 09 at Hotel Malla, Lainchour. A total of 40 participants from different GOs, INGOs and NGOs participated in the program. The program was divided into two sessions, presentation on the first half followed by the group discussion.
Mr. Raju Chhetri from UMN and coordinator of AIN-CCTF presents on the topic Current status of the International UNFCCC Negotiations. He says that, currently Nepal only belongs to LDC block and Nepal should form the block of country with similar interests to raise the voice on the negotiation process. He also suggested that the adaptation should be the strongest pillar for Nepal out of the 5 pillars accepted by the Bali Action Plan.
In the second presentation, Mr. Batu Krishna Upreti from MoEST discussed on the Nepal Government Perspective on Nepal’s Climate Change Response. The presentation was followed by the final presentation, by Dr. Narayan Chaulagain of AEPC on “Current status of Nepal’s Climate Change Response”.
In the second half of the program the participants discussed on four working groups: Adaptation, Mitigation, Technology Transfer and Finance. The draft of the outcomes from each group will be submitted to the government and it will serve as guidance for Nepalese delegates participating in the upcoming COP and other meetings prior to the COP 15.
